Religious Freedom Forum: Purpose: To present the constitutional basis for the practice of religious freedom in the USA, as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, and to discuss the historical background for religious liberty and freedom of conscience as expressed in the writings and traditions of Catholicism, Protestantism, and Judaism. Speakers will consist of representatives from these 3 faiths, including: the Very Rev. Dr. John P. Downey, retired Dean of the Cathedral of St. Paul, and presently, the Canon Theologian of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwestern PA.; Rabbi Rob Morais of Temple Anshe Hesed; and well-known constitutional lawyer Mickey Pohl, an Erie native and Attorney of Counsel for Jones Day Law Firm, who helped lead the successful lawsuit by various American Catholic Church organizations to overturn the Affordable Care Act contraception coverage mandate in health plans. Questions and participation from the audience will be welcome.
