The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the sacrament of the Body of the Lord received during Mass. First Holy Communion is traditionally celebrated in the spring of third grade, after two years of formal instruction in the faith.
Saint George Parish offers preparation for First Holy Communion to 3rd grade students through our Faith Formation Program. Please see below for requirements.
- Children who are parish members but do not attend Catholic School are required to participate in Faith Formation classes during the school year and attend our retreat in order to receive the sacrament of First Holy Communion.
- Children who are parish members and attend Catholic Schools are invited to participate in Faith Formation classes but are not required to as they will be receiving instruction at school. Attendance at our retreat is still required.
- Home schooled children are invited to attend Faith Formation classes or parents can contact Mike Palmer, Director of Faith Formation, to discuss curriculum options. Contact information below. Attendance at our retreat is required.
- Youth who are beyond third grade and have not celebrated this sacrament are required to be enrolled in the Faith Formation program and will also participate in preparation for their First Holy Communion. Attendance at our retreat is required.
Children of families who are not Saint George Parishioners but who attend Saint George School are required to receive First Holy Communion at their home parish. With written permission from their pastor, they may receive the sacrament here at Saint George with their classmates.
