Deacon Steve Frezza leaving Saint George

My brothers and sisters in Christ

It is with sadness that I must say goodbye to a community that has been both welcoming and of great encouragement to myself and my family.  The Lord called us to Erie 26 years ago to work at Gannon University; this year we have been called to Steubenville Ohio, where I will be working to develop uniquely Catholic Engineering programs at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Of our 26 years here in Erie, 16 of those have been at St. George Parish in one way or another; first as parishioners from 1995-2005, and again when I was assigned here as a Permanent Deacon in 2015. This parish has been a blessing, and I am so thankful for an opportunity to serve here. Msgr Brugger and Father Brian have been outstanding pastors to work for, and my brother deacons Bob and Steve have been, and continue to be great role models. St. George has provided me with many opportunities to serve various corners of the parish, including the 6:45am weekday Mass, assisting weekend masses, helping with the Parish Picnic, the Liturgical Monitors and RCIA.

In all, St. George has been a great gift to us; thank you for your welcome and witness and continued faithfulness to Our Lord Jesus. Transitions are always odd and difficult; but we trust in God’s Providence; as He has called us here and blessed us, so too we trust that He will bless us as we seek to follow his call, for the gifts and the call of God is irrevocable. Thank you again. Please keep us in your prayers, as we shall continue to pray for you.
